Get Collection Questions and Answers.
Does Get Collection place a large burden on eMusic.com's servers, when it downloads all this information?
No. In fact, Get Collection actually produces far less burden on eMusic.com than using the eMusic.com "My Collection" page manually.
How is it possible that Get Collection is less burdensome to eMusic.com's servers than using the "My Collection" page?
The "My Collection" page, even with nothing expanded, is a rather large page. When it's used manually, each expansion of an artist or an album requires that that rather large page be freshly reproduced and sent to your computer. Because of the way the page is designed, it's not possible for a human user to ask eMusic to expand more than one artist at a time -- each expansion means a round trip, and each round trip means sending back a new copy of this large page.
But Get Collection asks for several expansions -- up to 50 in fact -- at a time. So every 50 expansions results in only a single page being sent back. This is quicker for you and less of a burden on eMusic.com too!
I heard that Get Collection downloaded track listings too. Does it?
Get Collection does not download lists of tracks, principally because the track lists on the "My Collection" page are not listed in order. After Get Collection has made your local page for you, clicking on Album links in the second column of the results will take you directly to the (mis-ordered) track listings in your "My Collection" page. A later version of Get Collection may include this ability, if enough people want it. Check back here to see future Get Collection developments.
I heard that Get Collection downloaded .emp files too. Does it?
There is a version of Get Collection that does download .emp files, but it has not been released. A later released version of Get Collection may include this ability, if enough people want it. Check back here to see future Get Collection developments.
Does Get Collection require my eMusic.com user name and password? If so, why?
In order to access your eMusic.com "My Collection" page, Get Collection needs to login on your behalf -- just like your browser does -- to eMusic. Your user name and password are sent only to eMusic.com, and neither are recorded by Get Collection anywhere -- which is why you have to re-type them each time you use Get Collection.
How much does Get Collection cost? Does it include any adware or spyware?
Get Collection is free. Get Collection includes no adware or spyware. After Get Collection has finished getting your collection, the program terminates and won't run again until you run it again. Get Collection makes no changes to your registry or settings. Get Collection does create one directory, in which it places the html page it generates.
Is Get Collection open source?
Not at this time. I have gone to much trouble to make Get Collection as friendly to eMusic.com's servers, and to other eMusic.com subscribers, as possible; part of this involves causing Get Collection to pause (for a random period, as a further caution) after each request to the servers. To prevent selfish users from modifying the source code to remove those pauses, Get Collection is not open source.
